Observation of an IPE teaching class

I observed a Strand One – Introduction to Interprofessional Working teaching session yesterday at De Montfort University. The session was led by Liz Anderson and Julie Kent.

About 30 first-year students studying different subjects: nursing, social worker, therapists, pharmacist attended the class. They were put in 6 groups (4-5 students in each group), so each student gets the opportunity to work with other students from different professional background. The 3-hour session was structured by group activities, games and round-table disucssion and refletion.

I found the session really interesting and interactive, as Liz said that the session is reallly to help first-year students get used to team-working enviornments and have some collaborative practice before they go out to work.

I can see the value of converting the materials developed for this face-to-face session into OERs so that other IPE educators and practitioners worldwide could adapt and shape them for their own teaching or training needs.
